Sustainable change and coping mechanisms

Why is change so hard? How come we know what to do but can’t seem to do it consistently?
When we want to introduce some change into our life, we must create some space for it to grow. This means that in order to allow for something new to flourish, we need to let go of something old, that no longer serves us. The trouble is that the roots of old habits are deep and oftentimes unnoticeable. Most of the hardest habits to crack are linked to coping mechanisms that are embedded in us from childhood.
Coping mechanisms are the way we adapted to whatever our environment required of us. The things that overwhelmed us, the affection we did not receive, the fears, the terrors, the unfairness, whatever was felt as something too big to handle back when we were little. It does not matter where you were born, if you belong to the human family, you have experienced some sort of trauma. This perceived damage (whether intentionally done to us or not, whether literal or imagined), compelled us to create survival mechanisms that with time became automatic pilots.
Most of us, (if not all of us) inherently want to improve our quality of life, whatever the definition may be for each person. However, no matter how clear we may be about what we are supposed to do in order to be more joyful, more peaceful, more balanced, etc., we somehow keep on hitting the hurdle wall of resistance.
The difficulty lies in that we are bringing change into the same environment that reminds us to be our habitual self and all the old triggers are still there compelling us to react in the same way. Effortless change requires coherence of self between doing and being. The more coherent your thoughts, feelings and actions become, the faster you will be able to bring forth that change into your life and cement it for good.
The best strategy for sustainable change is to address it from the energetic level, by becoming that which you wish to experience. If you are looking for abundance, start by feeling grateful for all that is already present in your life, as well as for who you are today. This will change the vibration pattern that you carry and make space for a new vibratory alignment that will resonate with that which you wish to create. If we only address change at a material level, without changing the sponsoring thought, by pushing ourselves into doing things, at the very least it will take a lot of time and effort to achieve it.
The optimal change formula is to first feel the change already happening within your cells, even if the evidence is to the contrary, remember that you are not recreating what you see, but are creating something that still needs to be downloaded into this reality. Secondly, take action steps, coherent with what you are feeling and at the same time give thanks for what is already being manifested. Remain in this state giving it all your focus and intention until the old reality fades of for lack of attention.
For anything in our world to exist, we must give it our attention, so be curious about what you are feeding consciously and unconsciously. We are constantly creating, whether we realize it or not, we cannot do anything but create, there is no pause button to our creative nature. Let´s learn then to manage this gift, both for our benefit and that of others.
