Suffering and fixed expectations
So much of our suffering stems from our expectations. Life is a constant ebb and flow of changes, some of which we call upon, others that visit us with no warning. Nothing is fixed, nothing remains the same. If our focus is positioned outside of ourselves and we are looking for safety through control, we will suffer life´s movements as if they were unnatural currents throwing us away to distant shores.
It is healthy and natural to have desires, define objectives, dream and make plans, what goes against us, is when we become too rigid in our ideas of how things and people need to be for ourselves to be happy. It is good to be clear about what one wants to experience, just zoom out a little bit to include even grander things that you may unconsciously not deem possible.
There is an underlying intelligence that is orchestrating our lives. We need to give it some credit and stop micromanaging every little detail. Open ourselves to its love and become a curious observer of this cosmic dance, that creates no waste and is always working for the greater good. This intelligence connects us all and waits within for our smaller selves to awaken.
Society teaches us the value of productivity, to be always on the lookout for what can go wrong, what needs to be fixed. The attention is always on what is lacking, what needs repair or improvement. But what about all the beauty that is already there for us to appreciate?
If we can every now and then, take a look at what is going well for us, at what we have already achieved, all the obstacles we have overcome, the lessons we have already learnt, we would be able to see, that there is already much beauty in our paths and start to believe that we can relinquish control of the little details. I invite you to become curious on how the adventure of your life is unfolding, on all the surprises and hidden opportunities that will surely come and from that space of acceptance and surrender, dream big, without limits or expectations.
